Verify a peptide vendor in 60 seconds

Six checks, none of which require a laboratory or trusting us. Every one is answerable from documents the vendor has already published. A supplier failing any of them is not a borderline case.

How we score vendors →
  1. Is there a certificate at all, before you pay?A COA published on the product page beats one produced on request after the order. If it only appears after payment, it cannot inform the decision it is supposed to inform.
  2. Does the lot number on it match your vial?A certificate for a different lot is a document about someone else’s material. This single check eliminates more bad orders than any other.
  3. Is the laboratory named, independent and contactable?An unnamed lab is an unfalsifiable claim. Search the name; if it does not exist separately from the vendor, the certificate is self-issued.
  4. Is identity established, not just purity?Purity is a percentage of whatever is in the vial. Only mass spectrometry says the main peak is the peptide you ordered. HPLC alone cannot.
  5. Does the molecular weight match the published formula?Look it up once. A mismatch means a different molecule, and it is the fastest way to catch a truncated sequence or the wrong salt form.
  6. Does the company disclose a legal entity and address?No entity, no recourse. This has nothing to do with chemistry and everything to do with what happens when a lot is wrong.

What does “third-party tested” actually mean for research peptides?
It means an outside laboratory, not the vendor’s own quality function, ran the analysis and is named on the certificate. In practice the tested panels are HPLC purity and mass spectrometry identity. It does not mean the material was tested for quantity, endotoxin, heavy metals or sterility, none of which any vendor in our index publishes.
How do I read a peptide certificate of analysis?
Four checks. The lot number on the certificate matches the number printed on the vial. The issuing laboratory exists independently of the vendor and offers peptide analysis. The reported molecular weight matches the compound’s published formula. The test date falls after the synthesis date. A certificate failing any one of these is a marketing document.
Why compare cost per milligram instead of price per vial?
Because vial sizes are not standard. A 5 mg vial at $24 and a 100 mg vial at $80 look nothing alike on the sticker, but the second is six times cheaper per milligram. Normalising to $/mg is the only way two listings become comparable, and it is why a cheap-looking small vial is usually the expensive option.
Do any research peptide vendors publish full testing panels?
Not among the three we index. All of them publish two of the seven panels we score: identification by mass spectrometry and net purity by HPLC. Net quantity, endotoxins, heavy metals, conformity and sterility are absent across the board, which is a market-wide gap rather than a difference between suppliers.
Does a higher price mean a better peptide?
No. Across our index the same compound documented to identical depth ranges from $5.33 to $10.00 per milligram. A premium buys shipping speed, stock breadth and support, not additional verification. What documentation a vendor publishes is visible on the certificate and has no reliable relationship to the price.
Does Peptide Insider sell peptides?
No. We are not a vendor and hold no inventory. Some outbound links are affiliate links and we earn a commission when a reader buys through one, which is disclosed on every page carrying them and cannot change a published figure or a ranking.
Do you publish dosing information?
No. Dosing charts are the most searched thing in this space and we do not publish them, because the compounds we cover are research-use-only and have no established human dosing. We publish reconstitution arithmetic, which is laboratory maths, and documentation analysis.
